Welcome to W.I.C.H

W.I.C.H. is a community group formed in 2005/2006 by local residents of the Whiston area who came together in an effort to save the old workhouse chapel that once stood on the New Whiston Hospital site.

Although the chapel could not be preserved, the group was entrusted with all of its stained-glass windows and several remaining artefacts. With these items in hand, the next challenge was to find suitable land on which to rebuild. Land was eventually offered at Foxes Bank Cemetery on Lickers Lane, Whiston. Since then, the group has worked diligently and tirelessly to overcome every obstacle in moving this important project forward.

To date, thanks to the generosity of local people and businesses, an incredible £111,143.20 has been raised. However, we still require an estimated £120,000 to complete the project. This figure may vary due to the rising cost of materials.

Many wonderful supporters have contributed through donations and fundraising events. Our hope was to complete the build in stages, but unfortunately this is not possible. Full funding is required to proceed. We understand this is a significant request, but we also know how deeply this project is valued by the community.

Once completed, the new chapel will provide a peaceful space for reflection and remembrance. A need has also been identified for a disabled toilet facility, which has now been incorporated into the plans. Families will have a welcoming and private place to sit, talk, and find comfort during difficult times.

Fundraising

We need people to do fund raising events for the group and to offer any ideas that will bring in funding. Additionally offers of goods, donations or sponsorships from companies or individuals would be most welcome. Your help at this crucial time will enable this project to complete.
